The Basic Level Examination (BLE) is the biggest checkpoint of class 8 in Nepal. It is conducted at the municipality level by each local government, under the curriculum set by the Curriculum Development Centre. What subjects are covered in the BLE exam?#
The BLE covers the core subjects of grade 8:
- English
- Compulsory Mathematics
- Science & Technology
- Social Studies and Human Value Education
- Nepali
- Health, Physical and Creative Arts
If you are preparing for the exam, you should practise each of these. Most students take Mathematics and Science seriously but lose marks in optional-looking subjects like Health and Creative Arts. The past papers below include all of them so that nothing is left out.
Why solve old question papers?#
Teachers recommend solving at least five years of BLE old question papers before the exam. Here is what it gives you:

How to use these papers for the best result#
Do not simply read the papers. Sit with a clock, a plain copy, and no mobile phone. Pick one subject, solve the paper in the real time limit, then check your answers with a teacher or a friend who has already passed the exam. Repeat this for two or three different year papers per subject. If you can finish the older papers before the time limit, the actual exam will feel comfortable.
